چکیده

arkinson’s disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases characterized by tremor, stiffness and slowness of motion due to dopamine (DA) depletion following dramatic loss of dopaminergic neurons in Substantia nigra. Unfortunately, this debilitating disease has no curative treatment. Neuroprotective agents might be useful via postponing the initiation of neurodegenerative processess and increasing cell resistance to oxidative stress and neuroinflammation reThe Effects of Boswellia Resin Extract on Dopaminergic Cell line, SK-N-SH, against MPP+-Induced Neurotoxicity

The Effects of Boswellia Resin Extract on Dopaminergic Cell line, SK-N-SH, against MPP+-Induced Neurotoxicity

Introduction: Oxidative stress and neuroinflammation are involved in neurodegeneration procedure in Parkinson’s disease. Recently, neuroprotective potential of Boswellia resin has been demonstrated. Therefore, this study examined whether administration of Boswellia resin would attenuate MPP+- induced neuronal death in SK-N-SH- cell line, a human dopaminergic neurons- in vitro. Methods: Boswelli...

Glycogen synthase kinase-3β may contribute to neuroprotective effects of Sargassum oligocystum against amyloid-beta in neuronal SH-SY5Y cells

Glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3β mediates amyloid-beta (Aβ) and oxidative stress-induced neurotoxicity in neurodegenerative disorders. Natural products with antioxidant activity, such as Sargassum (S.) oligocystum may modulate GSK-3β enzyme and protect against Aβ-induced neurotoxicity. Therefore, we aimed to assess the neuroprotective effects of a methanolic extract of S. oligocystum against A...

Differential Effects of Methyl-4-Phenylpyridinium Ion, Rotenone, and Paraquat on Differentiated SH-SY5Y Cells

Paraquat (PQ), a cationic nonselective bipyridyl herbicide, has been used as neurotoxicant to modulate Parkinson's disease in laboratory settings. Other compounds like rotenone (ROT), a pesticide, and 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium ion (MPP(+)) have been widely used as neurotoxicants. We compared the toxicity of these three neurotoxicants using differentiated dopaminergic SH-SY5Y human cells, aimi...

A Nucleotide-Based Drug Protects against Glutamate- and MPP-Induced Neurotoxicity

Nucleo CMP Forte is a nucleotide-based drug consisting of cytidinemonophosphate, uridinemonophosphate, uridinediphosphate and uridinetriphosphate. It has been prescribed for peripheral nervous system disorders, such as lumbosciatalgia, diabetic or alcoholic polyneuropathy, or trigeminal neuralgia. Its effects on brain pathologies has received little attention. We examined its neuroprotective ef...

Sulfuretin Attenuates MPP+-Induced Neurotoxicity through Akt/GSK3β and ERK Signaling Pathways

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. It is caused by the death of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction contribute to the loss of dopaminergic neurons in PD. Sulfuretin is a potent antioxidant that is reported to be beneficial in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. In this stud...
